Minoggie Kennels is located on a 150 acre farm on Sauvie Island, just 20 minutes from downtown Portland, Oregon. We are proud to offer a broad range of excellent services from dog boarding to obedience training, but are best known for our reputation for training retrievers that excel in hunting and competitive field events. I came to work for Ed Minoggie back in the summer of 1984.
To be honest, back then I was looking for a job.
Now, 29 years later, I guess you could say I made it a career.
I ran my first AKC hunt test back in the early 90's.
I was hooked.
The best part was getting to hunt with these animals and see first hand how the hard work payed off.
For the first several years of training hunt test dogs I pretty much ran just a handful of local events.
In 1997 I made my first journey to the Master Nationals being held that year in Butte, Montana.

Why name a Golden Retriever Q-tip?
She was given her name by a friend who was commenting on the white tip on her tail.
Q-tip is out of Satchabrat MH MNH and FC AFC OTCH TNT's Stanley Steamer UDX.
She is the younger sister of AFC Special Touchs Satchacrazy Baileymae MH who was the top Amateur Golden Retriever female in 2012.
Quinn is an amazingly athletic and talented dog.
She is out of NAFC FC AFC Cody Cut A Lean Grade and HR Ornbaum's Pearl Buck MH.
Quinn completed her MH title and qualified for the 2015 Master National by the age of 2-1/2 years old.

In that time, Doug Shade has earned Master Hunter titles on over 75 dogs and has qualified 70 times at the Master National.
Of these dogs, 13 have earned the prestigious honor of being inducted into the Master National Hall of Fame.
Our Hunt Test training program is very intensive and is recommended for those owners who are serious about competing in AKC hunt tests and who are looking for top flight gun dogs.
In that time, Doug Shade has earned Master Hunter titles on over 75 dogs and has qualified 70 times at the Master National.

We have our own private training grounds on Sauvie Island with established ponds, as well as access to hundreds of acres of optional training grounds.
Whether your dog is young or in its prime, our 60 day program will teach your dog control in the field, improve its marking ability, and produce a great retrieve on land and water.
Our intent with this program is to provide you with a dog that you can depend on to make that retrieve when the time comes.
