The Petsitter
Welcome to the site for The Petsitter, the first and still the best pet sitting service in Lorain County. We've been spoiling Lorain County's pets since 1991, and we're getting even better day by day. We take care of dogs, cats, caged birds, rabbits, goats, and -our recent addition - chickens. We also do house checking, even if you don't have pets.

As you may know, I published a book in 2018, A Pet Sitter's Day, in an attempt to answer questions like "How does the business work?"
Services
Originally this book was going to be a magazine article, but here it is, a full-blown book.
Because the work is so demanding, with long days and no days off, writing it took years.
People have always been curious about the work, whether or not they ever hire a pet sitter.
They ask, How many dogs do you see every day?
How many clients do you have? and so on.
I try to imagine being that curious about any other occupation.
Think about it - it just doesn't work.
It has to be that endless fascination we all have with the human/ animal relationship.
This is a time for questions, both yours and ours.
We'll get acquainted with you and your pets and tour your home to learn their routine as well as where their supplies are stored.
We charge a $15.00 non-refundable fee for those who want a consultation, but do not have an immediate need for pet care.
That fee will be credited toward the first scheduled pet care visit.
Morning visits, usually starting at 7:00am, are reserved for dogs, cats needing medication, and caged birds living by natural light.
Here's another reason to fight for a ban against puppy mills.
Over six years ago, when I adopted my beagle, Reba, I began working on basic commands with her, along with housebreaking.
I had to assume she had either lived in an outdoor pen or in a home with a barbarian.
That sweet-tempered little girl didn't know ANYTHING.
I won't give you the tedious blow-by-blow, but I'll say that it took her three months to learn that the last.
My home is graced with the presence of two long-haired tortoise shells.
It's important to pay attention to what your pet is eating, mainly because the commercial pet food industry is not well regulated.
We've experienced a cultural shift in how we think of our pets, sharing our homes with them and claiming them as members of our families.
Now the challenge is to bring our care of them up to a level that reflects that.
