Andrea began Take the Lead LLC in 2019. As a previous veterinarian assistant with over 5 years experience in the veterinary field, she has extensive knowledge of animal's needs and reactions. Take the Lead was established in 2019 by Andrea Smith due to an increasing need for pet care services in the Carroll County, Maryland area. Not only does Take the Lead care for cats and dogs, but we offer care for additional pets such as small mammals, reptiles, fish, birds, amphibians and farm animals.
We are available to take care of your pets twenty-four hours a day seven days a week including holidays regardless of the weather! We offer a wide variety of services including check in visits, walks, hikes, sleepover and special event packages. Take the Lead provides a follow-up after each service in the form of a Pet Card, which includes information about how the service went, where the pet was walked, photographs, etc. so there are never any questions about how your pet is doing.
Take the Lead currently services approximately 50 clients and are actively adding to our team.

After graduating from James Madison University with a BBA in Hospitality and Tourism Management in 2011, I worked in Human Resources on behalf of the American Red Cross for several years.
Although I enjoyed the work, I knew something was missing.
One day I was flipping through childhood pictures - and it hit me.
Every picture was of me playing vet, crawling around with my sister pretending to be a dog, riding horses or snuggling pets.
What was missing in my work was the animals I've always cared so much about.

In-home consultation in which we come to the client's home to meet the pets and discuss details such as location of food and other pertinent items, routines of pets, personality quirks, walk routes, medication requirements, etc.
A Meet & Greet is required before any services are performed but is free of charge and scheduled based on the client's availability and preference.
Meet & Greets are typically scheduled for 30 minutes.
Includes a leashed walk in the area around the client's home/neighborhood for the length of time selected.

Couldn't ask for someone to care about my dog as much as Andrea does.
She has a very comforting and loving demeanor about her that probably makes my dog forget that I'm not home.
She keeps me informed and even sent a picture of my dog enjoying her walk.
