Mike Wombacher has been involved with dogs for over forty years, nearly thirty of them as a professional trainer. During this time, he has performed around 40,000 private consultations covering the entire spectrum of dog behavior, from the mundane to the bizarre. In addition, he's had tens of thousands of puppies come through his training programs over the years.
He has also trained other trainers and is currently the training director at Alpha Dog Lodging in Mill Valley, one of the Bay Area's premier boarding & training facilities. Here he developed the boarding and training program, trained the trainers and manages the program ongoingly. Currently he is developing a program to train service dogs for combat veterans suffering from PTSD.
Designed for quick reference while working with your dog, this large-format guidebook features the full gamut of training exercises - each illustrated with photos and clear instructions. It offers a wealth of ways to approach various dogs and scenarios, whether you're training a puppy to sit or correcting training issues in a mature dog.

Services
Mike offers three levels of puppy classes designed to take your pup from his first moments with you all the way through adolescence and into adulthood.
This program is designed for new puppies of less than four and a half months of age (though we do make age exceptions for small breeds.)
It is split into three main areas of focus.
First, about thirty percent of the class is committed to puppy play and socializing, the leading preventor of future aggression in dogs.
The other seventy percent is split evenly between trust and respect exercises that teach your pup to allow you to handle him or her without biting or rebelliousness as well as obedience exercises including sit, down, stand, stay in each of these positions, come, and off.

Mike's goal is to provide you with the most up-to-date, integrated and common-sense approach to dog training possible.
He has deep working knowledge in a range of approaches and from them has crafted a flexible program that is committed to helping owners in a sensible, fast-paced way that draws on the best of everything in line with the needs of their dog.
His approach is not one-dimensional, insisting that "we only do this, " or "we never do that."
A good trainer will have a toolbox of remedies available that can be creatively integrated and brought to bear in an infinite variety of combinations to produce fast results with an approach tailored to each unique dog/owner team.

We offer intensive yet flexible boarding and training programs in conjunction with Alpha Dog Lodging in Mill Valley, Marin's premier daycare and boarding facility, where Mike developed the program, trained the trainers (and still does) and is the training director.
He works with his team and the dogs regularly.
We pride ourselves in customizing programs to the needs of our clients.
That means you can leave your dogs overnight for whatever length of boarding and training you need or bring them in for daycare and training as few or as many days a week as you like.

As part of our boarding and training program we are also offering specialized training for service dogs assisting individuals with PTSD as well as a range of other issues, such as migraine alerting, scent alerting for fire and gas, and more.
We work closely with owners, their mental health professionals (if needed) and their specific issues to customize a training plan unique to their needs.
A subset of this, and an area of special interest to Mike, is training service dogs for combat veterans with PTSD.

One of the most common behavior problems and at the same time one of the most difficult to resolve, is separation anxiety!.
Below I have excerpted two sections from my books regarding this topic.
The first comes from my book, There's a Puppy in the House, and concerns teaching a young pup to accept alone time from its earliest days, thus minimizing the chances of developing issues with separation anxiety later.
The second section comes from my book, There's a Baby in the House: Preparing your Dog for the Arrival of your Child.
