Train My Dog & Me
I'm Sam Matlick and I'm a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA). To earn this certification, I successfully passed a comprehensive exam after achieving an extensive number of training and consulting hours. It proves that I have the knowledge and experience necessary to excel as a trainer, and that I am dedicated to training as a profession.

I have voluntarily pledged to adhere to a Code of Ethics, and am required to continue my professional education. Like many trainers, my own dogs were the impetus to learn effective training skills. In 2010, I began training dogs professionally. As a volunteer for the Humane Rescue Alliance (formerly the Washington Animal Rescue League), I completed a trainer program which enabled me to work with more behaviorally challenged dogs and to teach classes at the shelter.

As I gained more experience, I began to work with individual clients in addition to the group classes I was teaching. I have been extremely fortunate to have amazing, knowledgeable and generous mentors who have guided my learning and helped me to become an excellent trainer.
Services
I hear this from clients and students all the time.
Got a new puppy?
Trouble with pulling, jumping, chewing or barking?
I'm a professional dog trainer who uses science based, dog-friendly methods to help you and your dog develop into the happy, productive pair you want to be.
When appropriate I also employ my well-behaved canine assistants (Doshi, Tahiti and Cocoa).
Sometimes dogs have an easier time learning from a well-behaved older dog.
Beginning with the initial consultation, we offer private sessions, day training and group classes to help you with your specific dog training needs.
My training philosophy is simple: it's all about the relationship between the dog and the handler.
I want a dog who thinks and makes the right choices, and a handler who has realistic expectations and an appreciation of the dog's weaknesses and strengths.
Both the dog and the handler have to understand and respect each other in order to work together successfully.
Most if not all of the troublesome issues can be overcome through management, alternative behaviors, appropriate incentives and simple practice.
Sam not only helped us train and reinforce basic commands, but she's been able to help us with concerns regarding anxiety and over reliance on me (the mother) that manifested in protective aggression towards my husband.
Now, they are more bonded and it's sweet to watch Charlie seeking my husband's attention.
Sam is professional and strives to assess the entirety of the situation to provide solid, actionable guidance and technique to address/modify the behavior.
She involves the entire family in the process so everyone understands how to reinforce behavioral changes.
